06/19/2005 - Day 2, Back to Philly

Today, we planned for a free and easy morning, with an american breakfast and a trip back to Philadelphia... Nice day.. nice setting... Hee, I decided that the place that we were staying was too amazing and I went on a trigger happy frenzy..
As I mentioned... I was staying with shu and jf at this manhattan apartment that has a toilet twice the size of mine in Philly and was amazingly huge... slightly smaller than my place in Singapore.. but it's amazingly huge by manhattan standards.... Here's a shot of the view from the apartment.. Chrysler building is just behind...

See chrysler building? That pointy thingy behind?

The bed that Shu and I shared...

The tv with cable... apparently they are using the same cable tv box that we have in singapore...

The pigeons in the balcony who kept shitting non-stop..

The living room area.. with a huge balcony beside... this is only a glimpse..on my left and right was areas about the same size as the room containing the sofa... I didn't take it cause it was the office area... to the left of the room was the kitchen... and another toilet and room nice!

The lift...

and that's me with my camera... casio z55 (ok i know this is out of point)

A shot of the apartment block... class eh?

I shot of the view from the bottom up...

Breakfast was a leisurely affair at a diner nearby.. it was good! better than the one i had with heseung in new york.. hehe an artistic shot that i tried...

My breakfast!

After breakfast, we made our way to the greyhound station... we were too early and so we went back to the apt and bummed around for a little while... after that we went to the station via the bus... just when we thought that the bus was on its way to philly... it broke down! green thingy was flowing out from the back area.. sheesh... I had a pool party to go to at night and I thought I was going to be late... but then lucky thing, the bus managed to pull itself together and trudged along.. i reached philly at around 4 and was just in time for everything... Here's a shot of the bus and the outside...

The outside... just a random shot..

Hee, this concludes my new york trip... it was a great one! Hope you enjoyed this short bloggie!

06/18/05 - Day 1, the action

Today we woke up early to go down to liberty island. Yes, to the statue of liberty, apparently we were not early enough, just enough to skip the even bigger crowd in the afternoon... Here's a shot of me looking retarded (cant blame me.. I just woke up at 9 am... )

Look at the snaking crowd... that's just the crowd in front of us.. there was an even longer queue behind us...

It was a clear day as we passed through the 'security' (had to make sure that we were not the big Ts) .. Managed to get a really pretty shot of the statue of liberty....

The skylne of manhattan... it kinda made me fall in love with New York city.. I am kind of a city girl... Not only the shopping and such.. but it's more of the feel, the pace, the culture... Scary isn't it :P I'll die if you put me in Yosemite for 4 days consecutively... (I am being honest!)

That's just me trying to pose like the statue of liberty, albeit unsuccessfully..

This is something interesting... the girl in the red cardigan is having her picture taken... see the lady holding on the silver thingy? Apparently it is to reflect light and make the picture of the girl more vibrant. So formal!

After the statue of liberty.. we went over to Ellis Island. This is the island which hosts the port of entry for immigrants to americans. Apparently the immigrants only had 2 places to go, Memphis or New York City.. and this was determined by either choosing the left exit door or the right exit door... I don't remember the guide telling me if these people even knew where they were going to end up at... or if they even knew what/where is new york or memphis...

The hall where the immigrants were held before they had their interviews...

Interesting Shanghai note...

On a side note.. I must show you a picture that I took with Shu's Oakleys.. I conclude that I don't look good in such shades.. my nose looks so button like! I think I suit Gucci, Chanels and Diors more :P

Lunch was a gastronomic affair at Honmura An.. a gem within SoHo... The soba was awesome.. and you know how much a soba whore I am... hehe.. it was pure heaven to me... the arrangement of the utensils were so pretty! Check this out...

We had some duck slices as appetizer... Damn nice...

and some gourmet chicky balls of which we ate one before i took this shot below..

Shuhui's duck soba.... yummy!

My salmon roe soba! doesn't look as good as shu'z but I loved it!

Jf's sea urchin soba... the picture's a little dark tho...

what's a meal without deserts... it was awesome.. I'm drooling as I look at these pictures!

After lunch, we decided to go down to TKTS to get our cheap tickets for broadway.. at that point of time we still didn't know what we were going to watch.. but we decided to just queue up.. here's a shot of me in Times square again.. yeah... my favourite street.. I am almost always there..

After queuing for almost an hour, we got our 1/2 priced tickets to Beauty and the beast!

Next, we went down to Ground Zero, where the World Trade Centre Twin towers used to stand... I had a slight shiver sent down my spine... it was so surreal when I watched it on TV, the 2 buildings crashing down in 2001 (the day before my computing paper) ... and it was so real.. when I looked at the rubble...

Ground zero behind me, I am looking solemn...

Apparently just beside ground zero is this really famous shopping place aka Century 21 where they sell all the brands at very reduced prices! That was also the place that I spent 100 usd on lesportsac bags again...

After shopping, we went to watch our awesome musical.. beauty and the beast.. the set was amazing.. it is really different to be watching a broadway show on the broadway of new york itself.. the set is permanent and thus it can be more elaborate than the travelling sets that go around the world... I was amazed and enthralled...except that I wished they would concentrate on the falling in love of Belle and the beast a little bit more.. nonetheless it was a good show and money well spent!

After the show, we moved on to a restaurant aka Bubba Gump.. yes, it is inspired from the forrest gump show... hehe we ordered shrimp as usual... there's something interesting about the restaurant.. if you dont need the waitress... display the table tag as follows...

but if you need help... flip to a stop forrest stop!

That's me with the menu...

Here's our food... all american hehe...

It was all in all a very action packed day and one of the best trips to new york or rather the east coast that I have had of America! :D Satisfied...
